چکیده

In this article, we make use of some known method to investigate some properties of the numbers represented as sums of two equal odd powers, i.e., the equation x + y = N for n ≥ 3. It was originated in developing algorithms to search new taxicab numbers (i.e., naturals that can be represented as a sum of positive cubes in many different ways) and to verify their minimality. We discuss properties of diophantine equations that can be used for our investigations. This techniques is applied to develop an algorithm allowing us to compute new taxicab numbers (i.e., numbers represented as sums of two positive cubes in k different ways), for k = 7 . . . 14.

A TAXICAB VERSION OF A TRIANGLE' S APOLLONIUS CIRCLE

One of the most famous problems of classical geometry is the Apollonius' problem asks construction of a circle which is tangent to three given objects. These objects are usually taken as points, lines, and circles. This well known problem was posed by Apollonius of Perga ( about 262 - 190 B.C.) who was a Greek mathematician known as the great geometer of ancient times after Euclid and Archimede...

What is the Value of Taxicab(6)?

For almost 350 years it was known that 1729 is the smallest integer which can be expressed as the sum of two positive cubes in two different ways. Motivated by a famous story involving Hardy and Ramanujan, a class of numbers called Taxicab Numbers has been defined: Taxicab(k, j, n) is the smallest number which can be expressed as the sum of j kth powers in n different ways. So, Taxicab(3, 2, 2)...

New Upper Bounds for Taxicab and Cabtaxi Numbers

Hardy was surprised by Ramanujan’s remark about a London taxi numbered 1729: “it is a very interesting number, it is the smallest number expressible as a sum of two cubes in two different ways”. In memory of this story, this number is now called Taxicab(2) = 1729 = 9 + 10 = 1 + 12, Taxicab(n) being the smallest number expressible in n ways as a sum of two cubes. We can generalize the problem by...

What Is the Value of Taxicab(6)? An Update

The famous story of the number 1729, the smallest integer which can be expressed as the sum of two positive cubes in two different ways, motivated the introduction of Taxicab Numbers. The smallest number expressible as the sum of two cubes in n different ways is called Taxicab(n). So, Taxicab(2) = 1729. Further on, Taxicab(5) = 48988659276962496. Computing Taxicab(n) is challenging and interest...
